At university, you can explore your interests, inside and outside of the classroom. You will have opportunities to attend social events or join a student club. Orientation Week

Frosh Week will introduce you to Nipissing University, North Bay and your fellow students. There are various activities that you can participate in, including the “muddy Olympics”, movie nights, a boat cruise, special guest speakers and live bands.

Lakers Academy sessions are open to all students and are included throughout Accessibility Transition Program (ATP) programming to assist new students with developing and enhancing academic and life skills to foster personal and academic success throughout students’ studies at Nipissing University.

Lakers Re-orientation: Student Development and Services partner with support services across campus and throughout the community to promote continued success through workshops, information fairs and opportunities to (re)connect with the Laker community.

Clubs and Societies

General Clubs

Extracurricular clubs are a great way to become involved at Nipissing. You can meet new people, connect with fellow students who share similar interests and have fun. You can join an existing club or even start your own.

Student Union

Your student union plays an important role at university. The union advocates on behalf of students on campus and in the community. Members may also organize your Orientation Week and student clubs. At Nipissing, you are represented by the Nipissing University Student Union.

Varsity Athletics

Nipissing is home to the Lakers varsity sports teams: Basketball, volleyball, hockey, Nordic skiing, cross-country running and soccer. The Lakers participate in both Ontario University Athletics (OUA) and Canadian Interuniversity Sport.

Recreation and Intramurals

Nipissing offers recreational sports and leagues that you can participate in regardless of your skill level. Recreational sports include flag football, ultimate Frisbee and hockey. Joining a team is a great way to meet other people and stay active, whether you are continuing to play a sport or starting a new one. Nipissing also offers recreational activities that are not team-focused or competitive. Try yoga, a spin class or a game of squash.
